We were delighted to support our colleagues in the scientific research community at the University of East Anglia and University of Kent, as well as our partners at Freshwater Habitats Trust by making environmental DNA (eDNA) samples collected for our District Licensing schemes available for further analysis in a recent study.
The study, published on the 4th of February 2025 in Ecography, uses cutting-edge eDNA analysis and advanced statistical modelling to examine 320 pond communities across England, and supports the advancement of species distribution analysis.
The study’s approach has far-reaching positive implications for our understanding of species distribution and ecological community dynamics. Improvements in our ability to identify the multitude of factors shaping ecosystems could help guide conservation strategies, inform habitat protection efforts and enhance global species monitoring programs.
The study by Cai et al. is available open access here.
