The District Licensing programme for great crested newts operated by NatureSpace Partnership is data driven and based on new emerging technologies and scientific methods. The scheme has only been made possible through advances in site monitoring techniques such as environmental DNA (eDNA) and and advances in ecological statistics. We are seeing real on the ground nature conservation gains for the species. The positive impact we have has only been made possible by the recent advances made by our colleagues in the scientific community, which the scheme capitalised on. We will continue to work with colleges in research and innovation to ensure the impact of their work is far reaching.”
